Figures in my paintings

In almost every landscape I paint, there is a tiny human figure.

And I leave them there for a reason: I want you to imagine yourself in their place.The figure is small compared to the landscape. But for them, this entire world is their life.

A beach can hold a childhood. A view can hold a whole chapter of our life. A place becomes meaningful when part of our story has happened there.

That’s why I often see myself in these landscapes. Sometimes I see myself there as a child. Sometimes as a mother, watching my children by the sea. And sometimes, I simply imagine myself standing there, looking around and taking it all in.

The person in the painting can be me, someone whose story inspired me or you.

The landscape may be enormous. But it is still someone’s world.

And I hope that when you look at my paintings, you don’t just see a place. You see yourself in it.
